Are you looking to embark on a fulfilling career in education? ABC Teacher’s National Teaching Assistant Programme (NTAP) is a free, on-the-job training programme that will enable you to earn while you learn the skills to become a Teaching Assistant (TA). Let’s delve into what NTAP offers and how it can shape your journey towards becoming a TA.
What is the NTAP?
Our NTAP is not just another training course – it's a transformative journey designed to equip individuals with the essential skills and knowledge to thrive as a TA. This on-the-job training programme allows you to earn while you learn, making it an accessible option for individuals seeking to enter the education sector.
Who can apply?
Whether you're a recent college or university graduate, transitioning from another sector, such as healthcare, youth services, social care, sports or retail, or simply passionate about making a difference in the lives of children, NTAP welcomes applicants from diverse backgrounds.
While prior classroom-based or specific school-related experience is not mandatory, a genuine interest in pursuing a career as a TA is essential. Additionally, you must be committed to participating in virtual training sessions, have availability to complete a paid placement in a school, and be ready to start work as a TA with us upon successful completion of the programme.
How does it work?
NTAP offers a structured pathway towards becoming a TA:
- Free online training: Gain essential insights through comprehensive online training modules covering key areas such as safeguarding, behaviour management, and working with pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
- Paid in-school placement(s): Apply your newly acquired skills in a real-world setting through a paid school placement. Depending on availability, you may have the opportunity to work in multiple settings, enriching your experience and versatility.
- Expert guidance and support: Benefit from advice and guidance from industry professionals, and dedicated support from education recruitment experts throughout your journey, to ensure a smooth transition into your role as a TA
- Seamless transition to employment: Upon successful completion of the programme and satisfactory references, you'll be ready to embark on your career as a TA with the potential to secure long-term or permanent positions.
What to expect in the classroom
As a TA, your role will encompass various responsibilities in primary, secondary and SEND schools, including:?
- Providing support to children and young people individually or in small groups.
- Offering targeted assistance to pupils with additional needs.
- Assisting teachers with classroom preparation and behaviour management.
How much does it cost?
One of the best aspects of NTAP is its accessibility – the programme is entirely free, and participants even receive payment during the school placement(s).
Programme feedback
NTAP is helping schools tackle the recruitment crisis and providing an accessible pathway for people passionate about working in the sector. But don't just take our word for it – hear from a recent NTAP trainee:
“NTAP has been life-changing for me and I couldn’t be happier! The training was comprehensive, and I felt very supported during placement. Thanks to NTAP, I am doing a job I love and making a difference to the lives of the children I work with.”
